about
The "Lukewarm"/"VOICES" split single is next step by This Kid Here from his latest "Chilling Inside" EP. Here even less of his early day messing around attitude is present, instead the songs tend to be mechanistically repetitive, especially "Lukewarm" featuring little movement and almost no percussion, employing instead a new instrument in the arsenal of This Kid Here- the piano. Inspired by the likes of Thom Yorke, Douglas Dare and These New Puritans, the producer finds a new way of saying what he wants by using slow movements.
The other song on the single, "VOICES" is a very different take, yet, just like "Lukewarm", has a tendency to be repetitive, but here the core elements are samples and synthesisers, making it one of the most directly electronic songs by This Kid Here. Drawing inspiration from bands like Broadcast and Death Grips, the song uses both minimal synth, reminiscent of, say, Boards of Canada, and agressive, sharp samples and guitar, reaching its middle and then suddenly turning backwards, gathering new sounds, using various effects and so on, and finally reaching a techno ending. A garden of sounds, kind of.
So, both songs and what This Kid Here can show without all those familiar elements, that appeared both on "Courses EP" and "Chilling Inside" EP, showing an eagerness to never get stuck in one place, always surprising with new sounds and moods, well, it could be said that both songs are quite emotional, yet one is darker and the other more exstatic. Now, after the release of this single, no new music by This Kid Here is to be released for a long period of time- if ever again- and what will be the sound of his music- if there will be such- afterwards, remains unclear.
